Day 5

Anchorage to Trappers Creek, Wednesday, August 30

Our quest today was to take a floatplane trip and check off another one. The first place we checked out only had fixed wheel flightseeing trips, but Beth hooked us up by calling a local pilot and setting up a last minute trip. John at Ellison Air hooked us up.  We had a choice of an Anchorage sightseeing or multiple lake landings, we chose the lake trip.

We have video of take off and landings.  I will try to upload tomorrow.  large and need to be compressed

No vacation is complete without a visit to the local Harley store

Then we were off to explore Hatcher's Pass.  50 miles of backcountry, winding country roads up through the active gold mines.

Along the way, we found Jimbo's Food Bus and .  Best deal around.

The magnetic letter where more than I could resist.

 Jimbo and his new pup

Once back out to the main road, we headed toward Denali on Parks Highway.  Once we were headed toward civilization, we started to look for a place to stay the night.  The internet options were looking thin, so we stopped at Trapper Creek.  They recommended the Northland Inn and provided a phone number and soon we were in paradise. Airbnb #3.....

Beautiful 2 room inn, and the outdoor firepit was perfect.

Tomorrow we are headed to Denail National Park.

Day 4

Road Trip from Homer to Anchorage Tuesday, August 29

Woke up to rain in Homer and a prediction of a storm coming, so Halibut fishing was out.  We headed back to Anchorage to start our journey into the Alaskan interior.  Spent most of the day riding, but did stop at the Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center. 200 acres set up to house and rehabilitate injured wildlife.

Tomorrow we are going to explore and work our way toward Denali National Park

So yesterday we checked off glaciers and sea life, today we checked off bear and moose.  This place is amazing.

We left Seward  this morning with plans to take a 18 mile "non state maintained road"  on our way to Homer into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in hopes of seeing a bear or moose.
