Day 7

Now this is vacationing!! I carved our names in the snow and kicked up our boots.

We are headed outside to wash the bug guts off of the bike and then off to supper.

B sent us a picture of Miss Emma Lou today and she says "come home" !!

Love to all!!

Day 6

We made it to Glacier Saturday afternoon and decided to go ahead and ride the "Going to the Sun" parkway. Words cannot describe how pretty it was. We played in the snow at Logan's Pass, saw mountain goats, prairie dogs and took in all of the sights. We got on the road Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. and parked the bike last night at 10:30-----a total of 16 hours. What a big day we had. They close the top of the mountain at Logan's Pass at 9:00 p.m. so we circled the mountain and took what we thought was a short cut. First we saw signs that said "free range cattle", then "high wind gusts", then "falling rock", then "deer crossing", then "rough break". Little did we know that "rough breaks" mean that the pavement ended, dropped off 6-8 inches and went to pea gravel and wash-board dirt roads before returning to pavement, within 30 - 40 feet. I think I prayed out loud!! We saw a new Corvette headed headed in the opposite direction of us and wonder how he would like those rock chips in his new red paint. It was getting dark by the time we got back to the "main road" and there were cows and horses roaming along the road.

This morning we woke up to a beautiful rainbow and were provided with another great day.

We are currently in Missoula, Montana, which is about

miles from the Idaho state line. Tomorrow we will take the Hwy 12, the scenic route across Idaho (175 miles) and across the Bitterroot Mountain Range and should be in Washington tomorrow. Patti suggested we ride the Washington/Oregon state line which carries you along Columbia River.....still staying off of the interstates!!

Check out the picture of our ghost riders....they follow along with us every morning and every afternoon.

Posting two days worth of pics, so also check out day 7!!

Day 5

Well we finally made it to Montana. We have stopped for the night in Judith Gap. We stopped here to grab some water, cool off and borrow some wi-fi to find a place to stay. All of the places close by were either sold out or very expensive, but the owner told us they had just added some cottages around back and so here we are. The owners are originally from Nottingham, England and had moved to the states and bought a house in Florida and one here in Montana. They quickly got tired of the drive and sold the FL home and bought this place in 2010. They hooked us up with a room, cooked us supper and were super nice.

For the first time since we left home we made reservations for tomorrow night at a KOA cabin. We were concerned that we would get to Glacier tomorrow and not have a place to sleep and have to drive to the next town or spend a fortune. We're gonna take our time tomorrow and explore some back country, stay at the KOA and go to Glacier on Sunday. We figured tomorrow would be packed, so hopefully Sunday will be a less traffic.

Not too many pictures today, except for the welcome signs and horses. We rode through the Cheyenne and Crow Indian Reservations today.

I thought we carried a lot of stuff with us, but the chick in the top right picture was hauling a ton of stuff - you go girl.

Big Hugs to all

Day 4

When we woke up this morning at 6:00 a.m. it was raining, so we went back to bed and got back up at 7:30. As we were loading the bike Mark discovered bolts missing from the tour-pak which hold my entire back rest on. We found a HD dealership close by and picked up the needed bolts and repaired it in the parking lot.

Next we headed across SD. We have been through SD twice before, once in 1989 when we went to Yellowstone and again in 2003 when we went to Sturgis. We have seen the Badlands National Park from the interstate, but never actually drove through them so this year we decided to take a detour and check them out.

We are currently in Wall, SD. It is kinda like Pedro's South of the Boarder, a complete tourist trap, but a huge storm was rolling in from the west, so we are seeking shelter for the evening.

We only covered about 300 miles today, but it was nice to get off of the interstate and take in our first national park.

It's supper time, so we're off to grub!!

Day 3

We made it to Sioux Falls, SD today and are going to try to make it to Wyoming tomorrow. We rode along the the Missouri River today in Iowa and it is still flooded.

Check out the amount of stuff I was able to pack in those 4 small bags. LOL!!

We saw plenty of corn today........Iowa corn rows!!

We are off to the pool to soak our weary bones.

A big ole shout out to B - Happy Birthday!!

P.S. If you click on the pictures you can enlarge them.

Day 2

We found out at supper last night that I64 West had lots more road construction and the main bridge in St. Louis was closed so we headed north out of Kentucky and went up to Indianapolis and then took I74 West across Indiana and Illinois. We stopped tonight in Davenport, Iowa and will continue west tomorrow

Just before we crossed the Mississippi River at the border of IL and IO there was terrible wreck and somebody had flipped a truck and camper. We were hot and miserable, but after seeing that we counted our blessings.

Met a super sweet lady in Farmer City, IL at Imo's Family Restaurant and we shared the web site with her, so she'll be tagging along too.

Our dinner buzzer just rang, gotta go

Day 1

We rode about 492 miles today and are staying the night in Shelbyville, KY, which is just outside of Louisville KY. Tomorrow we're gonna try to make it to Kansas City, KS, which is about 500 miles away. The weather was great today until midway across Kentucky and then we got caught up in road constructions and detours and it got hot. All in all, we had a great day. We hope to be in Colorado by Wednesday evening and then we can slow down and start to take in the back roads and scenic byways.

Happy Trails!!

I think I have successfully uploaded a picture, so I am making progress. This is from the X Bar Ranch, a 22,000 acre ranch that we stayed at last year while in Medora, ND.

Vacation Blogging

I have created this blog because numerous people have requested that I send them pictures while we are on vacation. I have never blogged before so hopefully I can figure this out.
